Report on Violence Against Children in BiH

Within the framework of the project entitled “Protecting Children from Violence and Promoting Inclusion of Children with Developmental Disabilities in the Western Balkans and Turkey”, UNICEF engaged many local partners in Bosnia and Herzegovina. As a member of the “NEVAC” network, the Wings of Hope Foundation participated with activities aimed at creating mechanisms and tools for independent monitoring and reporting on violence against children and social inclusion of children with developmental disabilities by NGOs.

The basis for monitoring were indicators for tracking the state of violence against children, which were grouped into several thematic areas: education, social protection, healthcare and special protection measures. The following were used for the development of the indicators: Indicators for monitoring the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (revised and adapted for the BiH context), indicators for monitoring the Council of Europe Convention on Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse, and the Strategy for Combating Violence against Children in BiH for the period from 2012 to 2015.

Eleven organisations participated in the monitoring process, including the Wings of Hope Foundation, from 11 cities across Bosnia and Herzegovina. Based on the collected local reports, a consolidated report was compiled providing an overview of the situation in all eleven communities.
