The project is based on discussions brought about by a week-long sailing journey on a catamaran. 2
Sailing Journey
Live at sea, sharing responsibilities, always jointly promoting positive social skills.
3
Final Event
Reflection, narrative accounts, free activities – video editing, joint identification process of the account.
STAGE 1
Workshop is a community-strong meeting bringing together various challenges and dimensions of individual science/questions, topics of groups and individuals. Participants in the first workshop are trained in: communication, active listening, formation of “ja” messages, and raising/recognizing various problems.
They also respond to various emotional reactions in a conflict situation and the importance of working together for the benefit of others. In practice in these workshops also the program “ignore rules”, a place which each person can work on during the (many) hardest (own) conflicted situations and – independently changing others. Supporting the collaborative practice of providing basic policies towards a team. How can a discussion achieve real conflict resolution and leadership support. Being first in practice in joint and independent practice.
First Aid Course
As part of the project, each year one important partnership forming the course before the journey. The course is provided by the Red Cross of Sarajevo.
STAGE 2
On the journey on a fantastic sailing platform in the Adriatic. Plovidba is in the narrow collaborating narrow sea of Ljundia and other time-sharing countries sea/Ljundia sharing learning.
LIFE ON BOARD
Community living in a confined space over a longer period, sharing a bed with another person, taking care of food, and managing limited resources (especially water) were challenges we had to overcome.
Aware of our responsibilities and accepting the challenges together, the crew felt a strong sense of connection. The feeling was strengthened by sharing tasks in teamwork, which included everything from making shopping lists and buying groceries, to preparing food and cleaning. But also through caring for one another, for individual needs, and maintaining a positive atmosphere on board.
SAILING
All participants were equally involved in all responsibilities and were able to try everything related to sailing, which included steering the boat, raising the sails, tying ropes, and preparing fenders. The skipper carefully instructed the team, passing on to the crew of complete beginners knowledge about nautical vocabulary, compass navigation, understanding wind direction, and “reading the sea.”
“There was no place on the boat where we were not allowed to be or where we were not allowed to participate.” — project participants
STAGE 3
The team met two more times after the sailing journey to reflect on and evaluate their experiences and individual learning processes. In groups they reflected on their sense of integration, the skills they had gained, and their feelings during and after the sailing. The group discussed personal highlights, the biggest challenges, and things they would take home with them.
Like the workshops, the final event was held in the garden of Wings of Hope Foundation. It was held in an informal manner to ensure the comfort of all participants. A photo exhibition gave guests an insight into the journey and the various tasks the teenagers were involved in. Throughout the event, guests were given the opportunity to ask questions about the project, and participants shared their experiences beyond the crew.
VIDEO RECORDING
After the journey, the project is best described through a video taken at the school of the project. The video is available on YouTube.
